To Hudson's field and beyond

06 August 2019

Our Kennet Divisional Secretary, Margaret Lock, rose to the challenge by her family to tackle the Stargate Ride at the National Armed Forces Day in Salisbury. "My children thought they would wind me up but, much to their surprise (and mine!) I said I would do it, if I could raise some sponsorship money." Within 5 minutes Margaret had raised £75 so could not back out. She eventually raised £135 which will go to supporting our work with the Forces Family here in Wiltshire.

"It was hair raising, to say the least, as I have a fear of heights! The thought of hanging upside down was quite terrifying, but I have been with SSAFA for 10 years now so I don't miss any opportunity to raise awareness of our work. I'm incredibly proud to be part of such a great charity. It was fantastic to have my children with me on the Saturday, and I was thrilled when my great-niece and her family turned up as I haven't seen them for many years. Raising money for SSAFA was the icing on the cake."

Margaret's son Graham served in the Army for 22 years in 1RHA, and her daughter Kat's husband did full service with Royal Navy. Margaret's late Husband Tony was in the RAF, so they truly are a tri-service Family, a perfect advertisement for SSAFA, the foremost tri-service charity.

Her fears cast aside, Margaret is considering a parachute jump next!
