Committee chair

Role: Committee chair

As service committee Chairman you will provide overall leadership to a dedicated team of volunteers supporting the Armed Forces community in your local area. You will usually work on your local base or station.

We’re looking for someone who is committed to providing the best possible support for their local service community. You’ll do this by identifying needs in your area and supporting local volunteer work done by SSAFA community volunteers. This might include overseeing publicity and awareness raising activities and working with our local fundraisers to ensure that your team has enough funds to carry out its work.

Your responsibilities will include ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of your committee and making sure that financial affairs are managed to a high standard. The Chairman works with local service authorities and the local SSAFA branch so to succeed in this role, you will need to be skilled at working with volunteers and others at all levels.

Volunteering with SSAFA is special because you can see first hand the difference you make to people’s lives. It's a chance to offer your leadership expertise to benefit those in your local service community, to learn new skills and meet some inspirational people from our nationwide network of volunteers.
