Armed Forces Week goes Virtual

Monday 22 June – Saturday 27 June 2020

Due to the extraordinary circumstances that we find ourselves in, most of this year's planned events leading up to Armed Forces Day have unfortunately been cancelled!

But the Ministry of Defence and Defence Relationship Management are making the week virtual and so are we!

We are encouraging your organisation to celebrate this important week despite the lockdown measures. We have plenty of ways that you can get involved, from taking part in our Virtual 13 Bridges Walk to hosting your own virtual Big Brew Up. Of course, if you already have your own ideas, we would love to hear about them, so please get in touch at corporate@ssafa.org.uk.

The money we raise is vitally important to SSAFA at this time.  The lockdown has exacerbated the issues many in the Armed Forces community face, such as isolation, mental illness and financial insecurity.  Across the country our caseworkers and specialist teams continue to provide critical support, but we cannot keep doing this without your help.  Every penny counts - so thank you in advance!

Virtual 13 Bridges Walk

The 13 Bridges Walk was due to be London’s premier event for Armed Forces Day and an opportunity for companies and individuals to show their support for our Armed Forces while raising funds for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. Due to the circumstances around Covid-19, the event is going virtual!

SSAFA would like you to walk 10 miles throughout Armed Forces week and if possible, try and walk by some bridges in your area or a local war memorial. Taking part is easy - just use the button below to set up your GivePenny fundraising page and plan your route.

The Virtual Big Brew Up

SSAFA’s flagship Armed Forces Week event, The Big Brew Up, is back, but this year, we would like to you host a Virtual Big Brew Up.

Choose an online platform to host your event, send out your invitations and don’t forget to make a donation to SSAFA. Create a fundraising page here where you can include details of the event and circulate it with your guests.

You can download a fundraising pack here to give you some ideas on how to make your Virtual Big Brew Up an event to remember, and download a graphics pack here, for use on social media.

You can hold your Virtual Big Brew Up whenever you like! However, we’re encouraging everyone to hold their party during Armed Forces Week, with our nominated Big Brew Up day on Wednesday 24 June.

Donate the Cost of your Daily Brew

During the lockdown many of you have saved money from not having the luxury of buying takeaway coffees, so why not make a donation of the cost of your daily brew? Whilst you’re at it, why not add in the cost of a cake too?

Armed Forces Week Photo Competition

To celebrate Armed Forces Week, we would love you to enter our photo competition. We have several categories for you to choose from so you please enter any you wish, and as many times as you like.  All we ask if for a minimum donation of £2 per entry.  Categories include: ‘The SSAFA Salute’, ‘Your Best Bake’, ‘The Big Brew Up Selfie’ and ‘Recreate a Military Themed Picture’.

Armed Forces Week Raffle

Anyone can enter the Armed Forces Week Virtual Raffle (and it could be a good idea to share the raffle with your guests when hosting a Virtual Big Brew Up). Entry is £5 and you our top prize is a Ceramic Poppy from the 2014 ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’ installation at the Tower of London.

The Captain-now-Colonel Tom 100 challenge for SSAFA

Inspired by Colonel Tom's incredible fundraising story we're challenging you to do 100 of absolutely anything - this time in support of our work with the Armed Forces community. You can do anything you like from 100 lengths of your garden just like Colonel Tom, to climbing your staircase 100 times, holding a 100 round virtual bingo event, baking 100 cupcakes or running 100 miles!  Every mile run, lap made or cake baked will help SSAFA deliver our services through the lockdown crisis.
