SSAFA Dhekelia In Service Committee

Supporting service personnel and their families living on the Dhekelia Sovereign Base Area

Introduction

Our committee is made up of volunteers from the station. We operate outside the chain of command and actively fundraise to support our community.

Who do we help?

In the past we have supported:

  • The purchase of white goods for both families and single soldiers.
  • The purchase of equipment to improve SLA environments.
  • The purchase of equipment for the voluntary run children’s groups.
  • The purchase of equipment for the Dhekelia Pirates Rugby club.
  • The In Service Committee, with the support of the welfare agencies, have discreetly helped many families in times of hardship and family illnesses/ bereavements.

2021 Highlights

2021 was another challenging year for fundraising as we continued to experience COVID restrictions and constraints on events. It was also the year the Tigers returned to the UK and the Vikings moved to Dhekelia.

During the year we continued to run coffee mornings when permitted, we hired out the carpet cleaner, held an 'end of season' pool party, and ran Christmas and Halloween themed events at the cinema.

Help for you

If you need funding for yourself, someone you know or a community project then please request a form as detailed below.

Need Funding?

Applications forms can be obtained from

Community Project Requests

Tips for filling in the forms for community projects:

  • Explicit explanations of the requirements of the bid, include how this funding will benefit the community in as wide a sense as possible.
  • Show how you have tried to fundraise yourself and where else you have sought assistance.

For purchasing:

  • Provide 3 quotes, where possible local quotations.

Welfare Requests

Tips for filling in the forms for welfare need:

For purchasing:

  • Where relevant provide 3 local quotations if equipment or items are required to be purchased.
  • If funding is required for services please note that only approved services with relevant business licences in place will be approved for funding.

How your request is considered

  • We have 4 committee members who each share an equal vote to approve any requests for funding. We would politely request that all information you would like to be considered is included in the form rather than via a conversation with any member of our committee in order for requests to be given the complete consideration of all committee members.
  • When a funding request is received the committee will form a meeting to consider the request within 5 working days; urgent requests will be considered ASAP.
  • Should your bid be approved our secretary and treasurers will be in touch to arrange for finances to be transferred appropriately.
