SSAFA Ayios Nikolaos In Service Committee

Supporting service personnel and their families living on the Ayios Nikolaos station.

Introduction

Our committee is made up of volunteers from the station. We operate outside the chain of command and actively fundraise to support our community.

Who do we help?

In the past we have supported:

  • Helped with Welfare Grants during COVID.
  • Supported the SSAFA Health Team
  • Helped with the purchase of:
    • a stand for the Go Kart Club.
    • equipment for the Music Club.
    • equipment for the Toy Library.
    • Halloween and Christmas decorations for The Black Knight.

The In Service Committee, with the support of the welfare agencies, have discreetly helped many families in times of hardship and family illnesses/ bereavements.

2021 Highlights

Our annual swimathon raised an incredible amount of money, enabling us to support even more causes in 2022. We also supported an Ayios Nikolaos Showcase where clubs and societies came together to show what this small but dynamic unit has to offer. Giving newly posted in families and service personnel the chance to see what is available beyond the wire. Then we ended the year with a children’s Christmas party, with a film showing, games and a gift from the man himself Santa.

It has been a great year and with restrictions easing and life slowly edging back to a new normal, we have had the chance to really engage with the community once again.
