Royal Navy & Royal Marines charity awards £103,500

Three Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity Greenwich Hospital Grants were generously awarded towards SSAFA’s work.

£13,500 to Forcesline, SSAFA’s confidential helpline. Forcesline is often the first point of contact for those seeking empathetic, non-judgmental support. By operating independently of the military chain of command, Naval callers can be confident that their calls will remain confidential and that they will receive professional help and guidance.
£20,000 to Norton House, Stanford Hall, a ‘home away from home’ near the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC). From September, Norton House will provide free accommodation for families of injured or ill service personnel receiving treatment at the DNRC and enable them to support their loved one’s recovery.
£70,000 to Welfare Advice and Support service, which will provide practical, financial and emotional support to Naval veterans and their families, through a network of local branches across the UK. This grant also includes funding towards the costs of training and supporting SSAFA’s network of over 3,000 specially trained volunteers, who meet face to face with Naval families and support them with the challenges they face. To do these SSAFA volunteers work with other organisations, like the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, to ensure that Naval families get the support they need such as debt advice, access to counselling, or help to purchase new white goods.

Thanks to their backing, our welfare team and Forcesline Advisors will continue their vital support of both those currently serving and Royal Naval Veterans as well as their families. In addition, our newly established Norton House, Stanford Hall will be able to thrive as a much-needed home-away-from-home to the families of wounded, injured or sick service personnel.

It is an honour for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines to award SSAFA a grant of £103,500. As the principal charity of the Royal Navy, we recognise how important SSAFA's advice and support services are to those who use them. Through Norton House and Forcesline, the sailors, marines, veterans and families of the Naval Service will receive the support that they need.
