Pupils Bike and Trek to Everest to support SSAFA

08 June 2020

On Monday 8th June, 35 CCF cadets and 15 staff members from Winchester College will be taking on a revised version of their Mallory Challenge in support of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity in Winchester.

The Mallory Challenge, named after the great explorer and former pupil of Winchester, has been completed by pupils at Winchester College for the past three years in the Lake District. However, following the Coronavirus pandemic, the decision was made the cancel the expedition until 2021.

As such, a virtual Mallory Challenge has been designed to help support SSAFA and to keep the spirit of challenge alive during uncertain times.

The team will be covering the distance from Winchester College to Everest Advanced Base Camp by bike and foot in the remaining weeks of the school term – a total of 10,300km.

The challenge is being undertaken to support SSAFA Winchester. The team of 50 aims to raise £10,300 for SSAFA - £1 for every km covered.
