Lord Carnarvon helps SSAFA and Rally for Heroes

07 August 2020

The Rally for Heroes raffle draw took place on Wednesday 5th August and was hosted at Highclere Castle, thanks to Lord Carnarvon, in aid of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

The organisation, Rally for Heroes, have been tirelessly raising funds ahead of their annual rally across Europe for SSAFA that was due to take place this August.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 outbreak and lockdown, the team’s rally across Europe was cancelled, and fundraising opportunities were severely impacted.

However, the team at Rally for Heroes have continued to raise funds for SSAFA despite the lockdown, through the sale of raffle tickets and tireless perseverance.

The team drew the raffle and announced the winner of the grand prize, an MG3 at Highclere Castle on 5th August 2020. The team were delighted to announce that they raised an incredible £8,630 for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity from the raffle.

The generous offer from Lord Carnarvon came after he discovered that the team’s fundraising for SSAFA had been severely impacted by the Covid-19 outbreak and lockdown restrictions.

The raffle draw for the car was due to take place at Dover Castle on the first day of their final rally, but the outbreak meant that the rally had to be postponed until 2021. The raffle draw took place at Highclere Castle thanks to Lord Carnarvon.

8th Earl of Carnarvon was made Honorary Vice President of SSAFA Hampshire Branch in 2018 after it was discovered that the 5th Earl of Carnarvon was a life member of SSAFA Hampshire. SSAFA and Highclere Castle have worked together since 2018 after an incredibly successfully Battle Proms event held at Highclere Castle.

Rally for Heroes organises charity driving events across the UK and mainland Europe. Since 2010, they have taken over 700 people and 360 vehicles over 18,000 miles, managing to raise a phenomenal £600,000 for military charities.

Rally for Heroes has been a supporter of SSAFA for a number of years and has raised thousands of pounds for the charity to support veterans, serving personnel and their families. The organisation has held multiple events and rallies across Europe, raising both awareness and funds for the charity.
