Volunteers receive Prince Michael of Kent Award for SSAFA work

SSAFA volunteers attended an award presentation at Kensington Palace and were met personally by SSAFA President, HRH Prince Michael of Kent.

The three volunteers received Prince Michael of Kent Awards which recognises their hard work and dedication to SSAFA.

Squadron Leader Ian Stewart and Mrs Jean Stewart were celebrated for their extraordinary work for the SSAFA Hertfordshire Branch over the past 20 years.   Their remarkable efforts and effectiveness in providing support to veterans and their families has mounted to more than 1,000 cases during their time with SSAFA.

Lieutenant Commander Stuart Fidler is being awarded for his seven years as Chairman at SSAFA Norfolk.  His quiet determination, energy and leadership are reflected in the achievements of the Branch, which continues to attract strong caseworkers and deal successfully with an increasingly heavy caseload.   Since retiring in March 2017, Stuart has now taken on the role as Branch Vice President.

Kirsty Bushell, Vice Chairman at SSAFA said:

“We would like to congratulate our volunteers on receiving this prestigious award and thank them for working tirelessly for SSAFA.

“Our caseworkers offer a unique service to veterans and their families by providing invaluable face to face support to beneficiaries.  The energy and enthusiasm demonstrated by these volunteers is phenomenal and we are extremely grateful for their support.”
