Chloe Simms, James ‘Arg’ Argent, Lauren Pope, Georgia Kousoulou, Tommy Mallet, and Liam ‘Gatsby’ Blackwell, journeyed to SSAFA’s Southend Veterans' Club in Essex, where they enjoyed tea, cakes and conversation with several Armed Forces veterans* – four of whom served during World War Two, in prominent battles such as Dunkirk.
Alfred Smith (98), Bernard Mabey (93), Stan Marsh (93), Dougie Shelley (92), Patrick Nixon (81), Ian Thomas (72) and Paul Bennett (69) are all members of the Southend Veterans' Club - a weekly club set up by SSAFA’s Southend Division, which provides local military veterans, along with widows and widowers of veterans, with a place to socialise.
The tea party was arranged in celebration of the charity’s annual ‘Big Brew Up’ fundraising campaign, which encourages friends, families, and colleagues to come together and host a tea party – all whilst raising vital funds to support members of the military community who are in need.
Producers of The Only Way Is Essex, Lime Pictures, captured scenes from the tea party celebrations, which will appear on tonight’s episode of the show at 10pm on ITVBe.
SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, provides vital support for members of the Forces, past and present, and their families. From helping those coming to terms with life-changing injuries or having lost a loved one in battle, to providing care for elderly veterans, SSAFA works tirelessly to provide help and support for all members of the military family.
Jonathan Sandall, SSAFA’s Director of Fundraising says:
“We are incredibly grateful to the cast of TOWIE for joining our military veterans at the Southend Veterans’ Club for a ‘Big Brew Up’.
A Big Brew Up is a great way to catch up with friends and family, try your hand at baking and raise money that will make a real difference to those we support.
Your donations will help our serving men and women, veterans, and their families with the challenges they may face during and after life in the Armed Forces.”
