The chance to run in the iconic Virgin London Marathon is a lifelong dream for many runners and there's stiff competition for places. The public ballot for the race in 2014 was over in just a few hours after it opened this morning. However, SSAFA is urging people not to become disheartened and instead apply for one of our 20 charity places. All you need to let us know why you think you would be a great member of teamSSAFA. Apply for your place in the London Marathon 2014.
This year, we had a total of 38 runners, all of whom crossed the line and received their Virgin London Marathon medal with pride. Our team was a mix of civilian and military personnel all of whom trained hard over the cold winter months and triumphed on the day. Through their hard work, they will have helped raise over £60,000 for SSAFA.
RAF physiotherapist Anna Dowling was one of our runners this year and completed the marathon in a spectacular four hours and three minutes. Anna smashed her fundraising target, raising over £2,000. Anna says,
“I enjoy setting myself challenges and this has been a challenge I have always wanted to complete. Knowing that all the money I raised goes to such a worth while cause really helped me to train on those horrible, cold nights. The work which SSAFA does is truly life altering and it’s a great feeling to know that I have contributed to that.”
If you are one of the lucky few to receive a place in the ballot, don’t forget that you can still be a part of teamSSAFA and raise money for our vital work supporting our Forces and their families.
