SSAFA's Big Brew Up is in full swing with hundreds of events taking place around the country and in Forces communities worldwide!

The Big Brew Up is our biggest fundraising event of the year. From 6-12 October, we're asking people all over the world to get together with family, friends and colleagues to share a cup of tea and a cake or two and raise money for SSAFA.

What's been happening this week

SSAFA staff and volunteers helped to get our Big Brew Up week off to a good start on Monday with an event at our office in London. Meanwhile at Blandford camp  in Wiltshire, volunteers made time for a huge afternoon event with coffee, cakes, stalls and a raffle and still found the energy to follow it up earky the next morning with a Breakfast Brew Up offering cakes to those coming in to the Garrison.

Herford Station in British Forces Germany held its final ever Big Brew Up today when chefs served up bacon rolls and sausage sandwiches along with tea, coffee and cakes. Of course, BFBS cameras were on hand to film all the fun.

Their brother – Lance Sergeant Mark Burgan of 1st Battalion Irish Guards – was killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2011 and Laura, Kate and Jayne are all members of SSAFA’s Bereaved Siblings Support Group. They are planning to hold no less than four Big Brew Up events.

Kate said: “Hopefully we will all raise a lot of money for SSAFA so they can continue the work they do for members of our armed forces and their families. Families like ours.”
