Here at SSAFA, we are grateful for the invaluable commitment our volunteers make to the Armed Forces community and we are proud of Michael for this well-deserved recognition.
The RAF Benevolent Fund works in conjunction with Caseworkers from SSAFA to ensure beneficiaries receive the help they need. Caseworkers are the charity’s eyes and ears in the veteran community, visiting potential beneficiaries and helping them with all the necessary paperwork.
Air Commodore Paul Hughesdon, Director Welfare & Policy at the RAF Benevolent Fund, said: “There is one Caseworker who consistently stands head and shoulders above his contemporaries for both the quality of his applications and his willingness to go the extra mile for his clients.
“Michael has been a dedicated Caseworker for nine years in the SSAFA Lincolnshire Branch and the Waddington division… He is an experienced volunteer welfare Caseworker and always excels in supporting our beneficiaries. His colleagues have attested his commitment to the RAF Family and said without his direction and guidance the area would have struggled to function.”
On receiving his award, Michael, who served in the RAF for 37 years, said: “As a former member of the Royal Air Force it gives me great pleasure in supporting our veteran community and giving back to the RAF Family.
“You build strong relationships with the people you visit and it’s wonderful to see how charities such as the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund offer a holistic approach to their beneficiaries and tailor their support to each and every individual.”
This is the sixth year that the RAF Benevolent Fund has recognised the outstanding contributions of its supporters, personnel on stations and corporate partners who support the charity each year.
