SSAFA Gets the Vote from Scottish Football Fans

SSAFA is delighted to announce that it has won the vote to share £15,000 from the new Rangers Charity Foundation Fans Forces Fund.

From a shortlist of 10 forces-related charities, SSAFA, as the UK’s oldest military charity providing lifelong support to our Forces and their families and Erskine, the Scottish veterans charity, were chosen as the top two favourites by football fans from across Scotland.

Over 1,600 fans voted to determine where the target fund of £15,000 will be donated at the end of this season.

Rob Littlejohn, SSAFA Branch Chairman, Glasgow commented, “We would like to say a huge thank you to all those who voted for us. Receiving this donation means so very much to our volunteers and all those who we help. This money will be used to ensure that the military community in Scotland continues to receive the care and support they deserve in times of need or crisis. It is only with generous donations such as this that we are able to carry on our vital work in support of our Forces and their families.”

Connal Cochrane, Manager of the Rangers Charity Foundation commented, “Our fans have always given us incredible backing and I am sure they will continue to do so this season to help us raise funds for the two fantastic charities, Erskine and SSAFA, which have been chosen by our supporters to be the first beneficiaries of the new Rangers Charity Foundation Fans Forces Fund.

“We are delighted to add this new charitable initiative to our range of projects, which acknowledges the admiration and respect our supporters have for the brave men and women of our armed forces.”

There are 21 SSAFA volunteer branches in Scotland. This network of local branches ensures that help and advice is always close at hand and means that anybody who contacts SSAFA will be put in touch with an experienced advisor in their local area.

SSAFA dealt with 4,896 cases in Scotland last year, with a total amount of £2.6m spent in support of the military community.
