Revised Royal Charter and Regulations for SSAFA

A revised Royal Charter for SSAFA has been approved by the Privy Council following a review of governance by the Armed Forces charity. Updated Regulations have also been produced to provide greater clarity and to help volunteers ensure that they are able to provide the most appropriate care for clients.

The new documents are the culmination of a year’s work by SSAFA to ensure the charity remains at the forefront of providing welfare that remains relevant to today’s clients and society.

Cathy Walker, SSAFA Deputy Controller, commented, “We are very proud to have a Royal Charter. The revisions will not cause any fundamental change in strategy for SSAFA in terms of day-to-day charitable activities, but bring us up to date with current legislation and best practice.
“Eligibility for assistance has been redefined and for the first time carers of anyone who has ever served are also included among those we support.”
