Meet this years' Big Brew Up Ambassadors for SSAFA

Laura, Kate and Jayne Burgan are SSAFA’s Big Brew Up ambassadors 2014.

The sisters, who are members of our Bereaved Siblings Support Group, know just how important SSAFA’s support can be after their brother, Lance Sergeant Mark Burgan of 1st Battalion Irish Guards, was killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2011. This year the girls will be hosting their first Big Brew Ups raising both money for our Forces and awareness of SSAFA’s vital work.

Kate said: “We have been involved in the Bereaved Siblings Support Group for about three years now and it has made such a difference to us. We can talk about anything when we get together with the other siblings and it has become like an extended family to us.

“We want to tell people how important events like the Big Brew Up are and the reasons why fundraising is so vital to SSAFA. We will be holding Big Brew Up events in our work places. Both my sisters are teachers so we are planning to get the children involved in baking a few cakes and making posters for the events!

“Hopefully we will all raise a lot of money for SSAFA so they can continue the work they do for members of our armed forces and their families. Families like ours.”
