Mark Trainor (Division Secretary Grimsby & Cleethorpes Division and SSAFA Lincolnshire Publicity Officer) and Mark Smith (SSAFA Grimsby and Cleethorpes Division Caseworker) represented SSAFA at Armed Forces Day events in Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes, raising awareness and fundraising for their Division.
AFD Cleethorpes took place over three days and attracted an impressive 180,000 people. Mark Trainor said: “The event organisers always pull out all the stops and never fail to deliver an absolutely fantastic event which, this year, included celebrating the RAF 100 with an aircraft display featuring the world-famous Red Arrows. Our theme was to commemorate the centenary of WW1 on our display boards and these received very nice comments.
The hours are very long so we sleep in the gazebo for the three days. For Mark Smith it was his first time and he absolutely loved it."
Mark Trainor also praised the Scunthorpe AFD event, enthusiastically describing the "lovely setting" and stating: "we will definitely be back again next year."
Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday of June every year and is a chance to show support for all the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, including currently serving troops, military families, veterans and cadets.
