As we celebrate RAF 100 and commemorate the 100 year centenary of the First World War, Mark Trainor (Divisional Secretary Grimsby & Cleethorpes Division & SSAFA Lincolnshire Publicity Officer) and Mark Smith (SSAFA Grimsby and Cleethorpes Division Caseworker) represented SSAFA raising awareness and fundraising for their Division at AFD Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes.
It was their first year attending the celebrations in Scunthorpe with Mark Trainor saying
This was our first attendance at this event that was held in a lovely setting and was well attended, needless to say we will be attending again next year.
AFD Cleethorpes is held over 3 days and attracted 180,000 people this year - a huge and fantastic effort.
Mark Trainor said “I’ve been attending AFD Cleethorpes for some years now and the event organisers pull out all the stops and never fail to deliver an absolutely fantastic 3-day event which, this year, included celebrating the RAF 100 with aircraft in the sky including the world famous Red Arrows. Our theme was to commemorate the 100 year centenary of WW1 on our display boards that received very nice comments. The hours are very long so we sleep in the gazebo for the 3 days and for Mark Smith it was his first time and he absolutely loved it”.
Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday each June and is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.
