These days, almost everyone knows someone, or has a family connection with someone, who has served in the military - and in the world of TV it appears there is no exception.
SSAFA was delighted when the nation’s much-loved BBC One soap, EastEnders introduced Lance Corporal Lee Carter into its cast.
Solider Lee hit our screens in April and has already made quite an impact on the Square. The Carter family is one of the first in the soap’s history to have a loved one serving in the Army.
And now, Danny-Boy Hatchard, who plays the role of Lee Carter, has offered his support to Rally for Heroes, a driving adventure across 11 countries in just eight days to raise £100,000 for SSAFA.
Danny-Boy will appear at the Rally for Heroes launch taking place at the track where BBC TV’s Top Gear is filmed, Dunsfold Park on 27 June, the day before Armed Forces Day.
Danny-Boy also spoke to SSAFA about the preparation he did for the role and the challenges that his character Lee is facing as he settles in and adjusts to his new surroundings having recently returned from Afghanistan. He explains that now is as good a time as any to bring in a military connection.
