Dstl superheroes show their support for SSAFA

Earlier this month, staff at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) dressed as their favourite superheroes and supervillains to raise money for our forces and their families this Centenary.

Dstl’s sites, Porton Down in Salisbury and Fort Halstead in Kent donned super outfits as part of their fundraising challenges during the charity partnership with SSAFA. With costumes ranging from Danger Mouse to Darth Vader, individuals were sponsored to dress up as their favourite character and there were even some team fancy dress efforts. We think they look great!

To add a competitive element, the Military Advisers were asked to judge the best dressed at Dstl’s Porton Down and Fort

Halstead sites. The winning outfits were ‘Dstl Girl’ (below left), Gandalf and the Batman team at Porton Down (below right) and Superman at Fort Halstead.

The fundraising efforts as part of the superheroes and supervillains fancy dress day have raised approximately £700 for SSAFA – Thank you Dstl staff!

Colonel Nick Barsby, Senior Military Adviser at Dstl said: “The superheroes and supervillains fancy dress day is a fun way for us to show our support and raise money for our corporate charity, SSAFA. I have been very impressed with the effort so many people have made; it was quite surreal coming to work with the likes of Superman and Robin Hood! I know we all look forward to continuing to support SSAFA over the course of this year and next.”

Dstl has been supporting SSAFA throughout the year with other fundraising including a Three peaks Yacht Race and a Spring Ball. The lovely staff will be continuing to fundraise for us into 2015 and we can’t wait to see what else they will get involved in!

You too can get involved!

SSAFA are proud to work with committed and enthusiastic organisations like Dstl. If your company is looking to get involved in fundraising events such as a ‘superhero vs. supervillain’ fancy dress - we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch today to show your support to our forces family.
