Burns night celebration a big success for local SSAFA

Local SSAFA supporters hold Burns Night celebration to raise money for SSAFA Grimsby.

Sheran and Dave McCallion held a charity Burns Night to raise awareness and money for Lincolnshire and in their own words describe why they chose SSAFA as the worthy cause for their event. In thier own words -

‘Over the years I Sheran and my Husband Dave have invited our friends and family into our home for a belated charity burns night.    The Burns Night theme came about with Dave being Scottish and as a member of the NE Linc’s pipe band we thought this would be something different we could offer.

Over the years this has been a great success and has now has become an annual event for us.  We open up our home for all to enjoy.  The evening is only a success because of all who attend and their commitment to take part - either by helping with raffle, quiz, lucky dip or something else.  The evening also offers some culture, with the Pipe band followed by Haggis, neaps and tatties.

This year we wanted to support a more local charity that was connected to the forces and between us all we decided on SSAFA.  We contacted Mark (Honorary Divisional Secretary) and we couldn’t  have met a more helpful  guy, who had time to explain exactly how the local branch work and the different ways that SSAFA  can  and have helped anyone and their family who is or has been  connected with the forces.   I’m ashamed to say that personally I was unaware how long SSAFA has been around and all the good charitable work that has been carried out.  With our event being more of a personal event it feels appropriate knowing money raised will be helping someone local.
