Big SSAFA Thank You for £107,786 Cheque

SSAFA Forces Help would like to say a huge thank you to BAE systems' Brough site after they presented a cheque for a whopping £107,786 to their East Yorkshire Branch.

The money has been raised over the last three years through many fundraising initiatives organised by employees including golf days, fashion shows, sponsored bike rides, runs and walks, competitions and a Red Devils skydive, to name just a few.

Employees at the BAE Systems Brough site have also been giving their time to support volunteering projects for the charity, such as painting, decorating and gardening, clocking up over 2,500 volunteering hours in the last three years.

Bernadette Grimes MBE, SSAFA Forces Help East Yorkshire Branch Secretary commented:

“We have been working in partnership with the Charity Challenge team at Brough for the last 3 years. All monies raised by the team will be used to help serving and ex-service personnel and their families in East Yorkshire. We’ve already used some of the funds raised to buy a specially-adapted bicycle for the disabled son of a serving soldier, secure accommodation for a homeless ex-service man to enable him to have his children stay over for visits, and buy a special chair for the terminally ill wife of an ex-serviceman.

“I would like to thank the Charity Challenge Team and all the employees at the Brough site for their generosity in raising this wonderful sum of money.”

Rebecca Brothers, Community and Events Advisor said:

“It has been a real pleasure to be able to provide support to this very worthwhile charity, and to witness the funds being used for such deserving causes in our local area. We have been only too happy to help and have been delighted by the level of support our employees have given. They have been fantastic.”
