Armed Forces Day commemorative cover for SSAFA

This years Armed Forces Day is being recognised with a special commemorative cover featuring a first class stamp with the King's Troop Ceremonial Horses, the Stirling Armed Forces Day National Event banner and cancelled with a unique handstamp.

It is the first time a limited edition cover has been issued for the Armed Forces Day National Event, which this year takes place in Stirling on Saturday 28th June, and all profits will go to SSAFA.

Armed Forces Day in the UK is a national annual event providing the nation with an opportunity to come together around the UK to show its appreciation and support for the Armed Forces community.

SSAFA Chairman General Sir Kevin O'Donoghue said: “I would like to congratulate the British Forces Philatelic Service for creating such a unique and memorable item, which I am sure will hold much appeal for both collectors and supporters of the Armed Forces community alike, giving them the opportunity to own a piece of history. The money raised from the sale of the covers will help to continue SSAFA’s vital work with current and former serving personnel and their families, and SSAFA is very grateful for the support from BFPS.”

Veterans Minister, Keith Brown MSP, said, “Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for people to express their support of, and gratitude to, those in uniform on the ground, in the air and at sea who put themselves on the line to defend our way of life and the freedom we enjoy. The Scottish Government is an unequivocal supporter of Armed Forces Day, including the national event in Stirling. I have no hesitation in urging the people of Scotland to attend one of the many parades and events across Scotland marking the day - your support will be greatly appreciated.”

The covers will be sold at the SSAFA enclosure at Stirling on Armed Forces Day at a special discounted price of £4 (standard) and £8 (limited editions signed by Gen Sir Kevin O’Donaghue and Keith Brown MSP).

They will also be available to purchase online at www.bfps.org.uk/shop priced £5 (standard) and £10.00 (signed). The covers are also available by mail order by sending a cheque (payable to ‘BFPS CIC’) to BFPS The Old Post Office Links Place Elie Fife KY9 1AX (all prices include UK/BFPO p&p).

The limited edition official cover makes an excellent souvenir of this national event and comes complete with an A4 information sheet in full colour providing information about Armed Forces Day and SSAFA.
