Lady Dannatt MBE becomes Norfolk's new Lord-Lieutenant

29 May 2019

Appointment for Lady Dannatt

Lady Dannatt, Vice President of SSAFA’s Council and member of our Adoption Management Committee, has just been appointed as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the County of Norfolk.

Everyone at SSAFA would like to send Lady Dannat our congratulations, and wish her the very best in this new and highly prestigious role.

Lady Dannatt first joined SSAFA as a volunteer in 1983, taking up the post of Chairman of the Osnabruck/Munster/Dulmen In-Service Committee where she served with distinction for three years. After a short break and relocation to the UK, in 1998 she became Chairman of the Salisbury Plain In-Service Committee. Relocating back to Germany, in 2003 she became President of the SSAFA Western Europe Committee when her husband was serving as Commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps. She was appointed a Vice President of SSAFA in 2006 and is also an active and enthusiastic member of SSAFA’s Adoption Management Committee and Panel, helping Service personnel and children find their ‘forever families’.

Lord-Lieutenants act as the monarch’s representatives of their county, performing a number of important functions, including chairing their county’s magistrates’ Advisory Committee, presenting awards on behalf of her majesty, upholding the dignity of the crown and liaising between the county’s different voluntary and community organisations.
