SSAFA Devon

We are the Devon branch of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is a trusted source of support for serving personnel, veterans and their families in their time of need. Founded in 1885, we’re extremely proud of our long-standing heritage and of all the work we do with inspiring people from Devon, across the UK and around the world.

SSAFA Devon Branch and the flagship Gordon Messenger Centre (GMC), located at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, Lympstone, would like to invite you to be one of a maximum of 250 participants to take part in a unique and impactful project building the June Best Community Garden, 'by Veterans for Veterans’.

The GMC is dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing of our Armed Forces personnel and Veterans, and their families. The project is the first of its kind in the UK with the purpose of providing a tranquil and therapeutic space fostering relaxation, connection, and healing for our military and former military community.

Community and camaraderie are at the heart of the project. A committee of Veterans is already in place to advise on the design and other logistics. You can expect the project to be an extremely fulfilling and rewarding experience, during which you will learn new skills and make new friends.

Volunteer with us

We love what we do. The sense of pride you get when you know you’ve helped someone get their independence and dignity back is extraordinary. Through volunteering for SSAFA Devon, you’ll have the chance to meet some truly inspiring people, with stories you’ll never forget. You’ll also gain new skills and experiences, but most importantly, you’ll make a difference in the lives of those who have dedicated their lives, often at great sacrifice, to protect and serve our country.
