Delivering festive cheer to local veterans

15 December 2020

Volunteers from SSAFA Devon have delivered 55 hampers and 12 gift cards this December to spread some Christmas joy to veterans and their families across the region.

The hampers were funded by an anonymous donor and the charity has worked with Greendale Farm Shop in Farringdon, Exeter, to supply the hampers.

The hampers contain a variety of items, including Christmas puddings, jams and chutneys, to bring festive cheer to the local veterans.

A recipient of the Christmas hamper, Bob Parker, said: “I was totally knocked aback when SSAFA left this beautiful hamper for us. I was speechless. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, we have never had such a wonderful Christmas surprise like this.”

Another, Mrs Poulter, said: “Thank you so much for the beautiful hamper, I’ve never received a hamper before, so exciting seeing all the goodies in there, a glimmer of hope at this sad time.”

SSAFA volunteer, Terry Cuthbertson, who helped organise the hampers, said: “This year has been difficult for many members of the local Armed Forces community. We are delighted to have been able to deliver our annual Christmas hampers to many of our beneficiaries to offer some festive joy this Christmas.”

So exciting seeing all the goodies in there, a glimmer of hope at this sad time - Mrs Poulter
