Barnstaple runner completes London Marathon and raises over £1,400 for charity

16 November 2021

After being inspired by her grandmother Mari, Roxanne decided to take on the London Marathon to raise vital funds for SSAFA and make a difference to the Armed Forces community.

Roxanne, a trained architect, has raised £1,466 through a series of fundraising events, including a cake sale at Stride Trelgowan and donations from the local Caernarfon veterans’ breakfast club. The Valley Military Wives Choirs also donated to Roxanne’s cause as her grandmother, Mari, was a member.

Mari, Roxanne’s ‘Nain’, is a volunteer mentor for SSAFA, and has also been involved with two Military Wives Choirs - an independent charity and a subsidiary of SSAFA, which supports women across the military community.

Roxanne’s grandmother, Mari, said: “Being a volunteer for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is a cause very close to my heart. I am extremely proud of Roxanne for completing the London Marathon and raising vital funds for the charity too. I know she also got a real sense of achievement from it and loved taking part!”

Roxanne said: “I am so grateful to everyone that has supported me, including buying cakes at my bake sale and entering my raffle. I couldn’t have done it without them! I also want to thank my friends and family that supported me through my training which was hard especially whilst being injured. There is still time to donate if you wish to support this worthwhile cause that supports our Armed Forces community.”

Please feel free to call our Forcesline if you need any support.
