  • SSAFA Cardiff 2016 5K Race Series 2016 - RACE 2

It's that man again - Martin Rees sets another world's best time!

Race 2 on 22nd June was run in cool-ish but all the same rather humid conditions, hardly helpful for those looking for a new PB.
Martin Rees (Les Croupiers) didn't seem to notice however. He broke his previous world's best time for a 63-year old - 16:40 in Race 1 - finishing Race 2 in 16:27. And 12th overall in a field of over 130 runners. There was only one M-category runner ahead of Martin, Huw Evans, LCRC, an M40 contestant in 6th place with a worthy 16:03. Behind Martin, the next placed senior runner was Ifan Lloyd of Swansea, category M55, in 22nd place with 17:01
Carwyn Jones (Cardiff AAC) continues to set the pace, clinching a second top spot, but only by pushing hard at the finish to hold off Dan Nash (East Cornwall). Jones came in at 15:02, ten seconds faster than his Race 1 victory, just three seconds ahead of Nash.
Despite dropping to fourth place in this race, Tes Goitom (Les Croupiers) shaved another seven seconds of his Race 1 time, finishing in 15:31, six seconds behind James Thie (Cardiff AAC).

Latest standings for the Series are available to download below.

Race 3 is set for 20th July .
