My grandfather, Richard Wilde Stafford, (stood middle back), started in an orphanage called Arethusa and in 1914 joined the Royal Navy. He trained at HMS Ganges and was then sent to HMS Barham. He took part in the battle of Jutland at the early age of 15 years. He unfortunately lost his hearing due to the gun fire.
