Charity walk for SSAFA Forces Help
Edzell based ex-Serviceman, Bobby Campbell MBE, well known in Angus for his charity walks, is now half way through a walking marathon.
On Saturday 1st March Bobby started a 365 day walk The walk will see Bobby, who recently had a new hip, aim to walk six miles a day, every day for a year. That´s well over 2000 miles. Come rain, come shine - with not a day off in between.
Bobby has chosen to raise funds and awareness for SSAFA Forces Help. Having seen how SSAFA helped his wife Marie recently, Bobby wants to repay some of the kindness, and tell more people about SSAFA´s work.
On Saturday 6th September a group of well wishers and friends gathered to mark Bobby´s half way point (over 1000 miles) and keep his spirits up for the next half. The Lord Lieutenant of Angus, Mrs Georgiana Osborne, who is President of SSAFA Angus Perth & Kinross, was on hand to wish him well for his next 1000 miles.
Supporters included the Scottish Military Vehicles group who have done a lot to promote the cause. The local SSAFA branch is most grateful to them
Bobby has been accompanied for part of his walk by two local lads with military connections, John and Stanley Horsburgh, who each aim to walk over two hundred miles. The young men and their family recently ran a stall with Bobby at an Edzell car boot sale and raised £200 for SSAFA.
Bobby carries sponsorship forms and leaflets on his walks, so anyone wanting to donate or find out more, can do so on the spot.
Further information is available from Angus@ssafa.org.uk or 01738 623214
Well done and good luck, Bobby, John and Stanley.
If you see them, give them a wave or, even better, give them some money.
